2009 Tejano ROOTS: Pavos Reales, DLG, Ruco V,  Elizondo

There's a half dozen San Antonio legends getting inducted into the 2009 Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in November. The prestigious event takes place in the historic town of Alice, Texas.

NOV. 20-21 DATE has been POSTPONED until future date is announced - updated 10/5/2009

Among the 2009 class of inductees are San Antonio's Los Pavos Reales, Rudy Palacios, Gilberto ‘Gibby’ Escobedo, David Lee Garza, Gerardo ‘Jerry’

 De La Rosa, Manuel ‘ Manny’ Guerra, Patsy Torres, and Abelardo “Ruco’ Villareal.

In the category of Distributor, San Antonio's Chano Elizondo is also getting inducted. See complete inductee list below.

His name was always among the towering legends in the evolution of Tex-Mex and norteno music.

Yet while the name Cornelio Reyna Jr. was often associated with the pioneers of border music, he never quite reached the stratosphere the way his late famous father did.

According to a family spokesman Rafael Montiel, Reyna Jr. died of apparent respiratory failure in a downtown Mexico City hospital on Aug. 6.  He was 50.
