Live music, fellowship and lots of tamales were the prescription for a good time Wednesday at the 2008 Academy of Tejano Music's 'Tex-Mex Tamalada' reception at the B&N Lounge No. 2 on S. Flores.

ATAM Executive Director Chayo Zaldivar greeted the guests

 as they arrived for a nice banquet of goodies that of course, included menudo and tamales - lots of them. Artists who dropped in included Ruben Ramos, George Rivas, Jorge Alejandro, Rene Garcia, Rick Balderrama, Elizabeth, David Lee Garza, Stefani, Chris Sandoval, Juanito and others.

Other guests included Lefty Ray Chapa, DJ Superdave, Tejano Ray Lopez, Ramon Hernandez, Christina Hernandez and others.

Zaldivar reflected on a "good 2008," which saw the recent and well-attended 2008 ATAM awards.

"We'll be meeting soon to start planning for 2009 and seeking input from people on how we can continue to improve not only the awards ceremonies but all our programs for artists," she said.

The ATAM is a non-profit Texas chartered organization whose purpose is to promote Tejano music.

The ATAM presents an annual awards program that recognizes the most popular artists and performers as determined by the music industry. Among their goals is the betterment of artists and the industry and includes such goals/benefits as health plans, low-rate life insurance rates for its members.
