Pochimex CD Party: live music, collaborations

Big sound, new music and fun artist teamups highlighted the Pochimex/Elio Quintanilla CD release party Thursday night at the Cadillac Bar.

More than 200 fans filled the main room at the bar when the bands kicked off the party.

Opening groups included La Calidad and Los Astronautas.

Los Astronautas proved themselves a solid conjunto group, thrilling the fans when they played "La Del Mono Colorado," and then the classic "Un Puno de Tierra," whose lyrics  describe the need to live life to its fullest.

Pochimex came up next and series of guests artists took their turns, including Albert Tiger Diaz, Mark Ledesma and Marcos Orozco.

Pochimex's setlist opened with the title track to their latest CD "Mi Barrio Querido," a tune which veteran program director Danny Garcia said reminded him of Los Serrata Brothers.

They followed with other CD tracks including "La Pichicua," and "Dulce Amor."

Jorge Moreno, dressed in white shirt, blue jeans and cowboy hat, followed and he turtned inan inspiring bilingual version of Brooks& Dunn's "Neon Moon."

Pochimex followed with "Piquito De Oro" and "Un Rinconsito en el Cielo."

Elio Quintanila wrapped up the night with several cuts from his latest CD "Recuerdos" including "El lAsesino,""Si tu Supieras," and "Celos de la Gente."
