Vicente Fernandez: 'rancheras will never dieVicente Fernandez'

Ranchera king Vicente Fernandez was plain and clear when he commented on winning at the Premios Oye in Zacatecas, Mexico.

According to this www.exonline.com.mx story, Fernandez held his trophy, the premio Orgullo Mexicano, (one of four total awards) and said he dedicated it to his late rival/colleague Antonio Aguilar. He said "I will keep these trophies in myVicente Fernandez house, because they are yours (fans). It is you who either make or break, the artists."

It was rather odd that Fernandez, 68, would give credit to Antonio Aguilar.

Through all the years, Fernandez has rarely commented on Aguilar, choosing instead to acknowledge Los Tres Gallos,...the three kings of the ranchera- Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete and Javier Solis.

Still, in a way it was nice that he chose to acknowledge Aguilar, who as a contemporary of the other three, was also part of the genre's rise in the 1940s and 1950s.

In Spanish:
“Estas estatuillas no son mías, van a estar en mi casa de adorno, pero son de ustedes, porque ustedes son los que los dan o los que acaban con un artista, muchas gracias.”
