Young talent is always the key to the future and with that in mind, producers of the 14th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza have scheduled presentations by new artists.

Mariachi Vargas is headlining

the big show tomorrow, Saturday at the Municipal Auditorium. And opening up for them will be the winnerso f the group and vocal compeititons.

Mariachi Vargas will perform with the UTSA Symphony Orchestra. Tickets to see Mariachi Vargas in concert are available through Ticketmaster.com.

Meanwhile, today and Saturday there will be group and vocal competitions at the auditorium.

Classic Tejano lost another hero recently when pioneer Ramiro "Snowball" de la Cruz passed away of a heart attack.

De La Cruz, 68, died May 20 in McAllen.

Many fans may recall De La Cruz as heading the band Snowball and Co which backed up another pioneer – Laura Canales in her early career. Canales had originally begun her career with Los Unicos and followed with a short stint with El Conjunto Bernal before joining Snowball.
