“Hallettsville”: adventure, horror and more

Correspondent Ramon Hernandez screened the new movie “Hallettsville” in this report.

“Hallettsville” makes a dream come true for actor-writer Derek Lee Nixon. After three years after

completion of filming, his long awaited flick has hit the silver screen and he chose his hometown for the site of his movie premiere.

Last Friday night, long stretch limos pulled up to the Palladium Theater off-loading Hollywood notables such as Jesse Borrego, Andres Aguilar and Rita Verreos along with Tejano superstars as Rubén Ramos and television personality Brandy López.

The only noticeably missing celebrity was Gary Busey, who plays the part of Sheriff Ketchum. However, the very handsome David Precopia made up for the rest of the Sheriff’s Department.

However, all the actors didn’t play the super star role. Instead, they arrived early and mingled with fans, who found them super down-to-earth.

Derek himself was zigzagging here, there and everywhere making sure everything was on track.

There was a press area with a KJ 97 radio backdrop and after everyone made their grand entrance on the red carpet, everyone filed into the screening, some armed with super-sized sodas and buckets of popcorn.

“Hallettsville,” which is also already available on DVD, exceeded some expectations and turned out to be a good entertaining kind-of-horror movie. It was, as singer Virginia Lynch commented, “it was definitely ten times better than the ‘Blair Witch Project.’ ”

Afterwards, Nixon, whose step-father Arturo Cadena owns Catalina Records and several other business interests were on hand with actors Brooke Baker, Jordan Brower, Nick Cadena (Nixon’s brother) plus director-screenplay writer Andrew Pozza and Tim Massey, a second screenplay writer to pose for pictures with fans.

Than it was on to a post-screening party at Chango’s where everyone celebrated Nixon’s accomplishments.
