Lila Downs: concert at Sunken Gardens 

Folk singer Lila Downs headlines big show at the Sunken Garden Amphitheater. Downs will be joined by local acts Azul, Rita Vidaurri, Beatriz Llamas, and Blanca Rosa.

Downs is one of the top Mexican-American folk singers who tackles a variety

 of subjects beyond romance and tradition.

Her latest CD is "Shake Away," which features several guests including noted folksinger Mercedes Sosa on the tune "Tierra de Luz."

Downs is well-known for her musical explorations of Mexican culture, particularly Oaxaca,whereshe has roots.

In a brief interview, Downs said she has always been impressed with Sosa.

"I was surprised and very honored that she agreed to collaborate on this album," Downs said.

The show is presented by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. Admission is free for the show scheduled Friday, March 27.

"For the first time since her unforgettable 2004 concert event, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Lila Downs returns to San Antonio for Encanto en la lucha con Lila Downs presented by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center.

This FREE open-air concert will take place on Friday, March 27, 2009 at the historic Sunken Garden Theater, 3975 N. St. Mary’s St., San Antonio. Grounds open at 5:00 pm and will feature a Mercado with local artisans, vendors, and concession sales.

"Joining Downs for this can’t miss performance: Rita Vidaurri, Beatriz Llamas, Blanca Rosa, and Janet Cortez, known as Las Tesoros del Westside accompanied by Mariachi Las Alteñas and Azul."

Camila, Pedro Fernandez, Juan Luis Guerra, Enrique Iglesias, Rosario, and Wisin Y Yandel will be among the performers for the 11th Annual Latin Grammy® Awards.

The Latin Grammys are scheduled Nov. 11 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network,

In addition, actor/comedian Eugenio Derbez and actress/singer Lucero will co-host this year's celebration.
