2009 Tejano Conjunto Fest: Saldivar, Vela highlight last day
Conjunto legends Mingo Saldivar and Ruben Vela highlights the last day of the 2009 Tejano Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio.
It's been a major conjunto showcase the last few days with top stars and
new talent. Accordion wizard Steve Jordan was given a tribute.
He had had not played the festival in the last eight years.
“Esteban is a musical genius, one of the great innovators pushing the limits of conjunto music and integrating blues, jazz, rock, salsa and more into traditional conjunto," said organizer Juan Tejeda.
Also playing today is Conjunto Heritage Taller/Conjunto Palo Alto, Chano Cadena y su Conjunto, Ricardo Guzmán y Los Tres Aces, Conjunto Borrego de Jesse Borrego Sr. y Jr., Johnny “El Brujo” Cruz and the Texas Chain Gang, Los Cuatro Vientos de Jimmy Bejarano, Oscar Hernández and the Tuff Band and Eva Ybarra y su Conjunto.
Ruben Vela goes on 10 p.m. and Saldivar will follow.
There are also button accordion and bajo sexto workshops scheduled today at the Guadalupe Theatre.
