San Antonio Opera Awards honor Padron, Aguilar & Girard, Hardberger

The San Antonio Opera recognized several industry leaders at its 2009 Donor Appreciation Reception held Sunday.

The reception, held at Basil Scaljon Rugs, 2420 N. Main, Sunday, May 17, was held in recognition and

 appreciation to past and continued support of donors who have contributed time, funds and leadership to the San Antonio Opera and its 2008-2009 Season.

The 2009 Bravo Award Honorees were Al Aguilar & Gisela Girard of Creative Civilization and Felix N. Padron, Director of the San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs. Local advertising agency, Creative Civilization, led by Aguilar and Girard, rebranded the San Antonio Opera and has led marketing and public relations efforts for the organization on a pro-bono basis for the past three years, bringing the company to the forefront of San Antonio’s performing arts community.
 
Padron was honored for his leadership in San Antonio’s Cultural arts. As Director of the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs, Padron is responsible for overseeing the granting process for non-profit art and cultural agencies in San Antonio. As head of the department, Mr. Padron works with art agencies, city departments, neighborhoods and the business community to support and promote the arts in San Antonio.
 
Also part of the reception was the 2009 Legend’s Award, presented to Mayor Phil Hardberger and Mrs. Linda Hardberger, recognizing the Hardberger’s long-time support and influence in raising awareness of the San Antonio Opera. 
 
“Through his support and regular attendance of the company’s productions throughout his term, Mayor Hardberger has displayed tremendous support of San Antonio Opera” says Mark Richter, Artistic Director of the San Antonio Opera. “We are proud and honored to have such a mayor in San Antonio who recognizes the importance of the performing arts in this city.”

Recently, Creative Civilization was also a top winner at the Public Relations Society of America — San Antonio, awards program. Creative Civilization won 14 of the 47 awards and certificates of merit bestowed by the chapter.
