American Sabor: Bombasta, Stef, Girls in Coma

Big party with music and food continues at Market Square this weekend with the "American Sabor" festival.

The lineup includes Stefani Montiel, Bombasta, Your Greatest Mistake/

Jes Latino, Stained Cross/ Latin Rock Stars, Grupo Fama / Budian, Von Army / DJ Scuba Gooding, Mexican Step-Grandfather, Liberal, Ernie Garibay, Girl in a Coma, Pinata Protest and more.

The live music takes place on two stages at Market Squarei, one by Mariachi Stage and one by Museo Alameda.

The fun starts at noon Saturday, Sept. 19 and admission is free.

Girl in a Coma is all-female alt-rock trio that has toured hard. The trio released their debut CD on Joan Jett's Blackheart record label.

Classic Tejano lost another hero recently when pioneer Ramiro "Snowball" de la Cruz passed away of a heart attack.

De La Cruz, 68, died May 20 in McAllen.

Many fans may recall De La Cruz as heading the band Snowball and Co which backed up another pioneer – Laura Canales in her early career. Canales had originally begun her career with Los Unicos and followed with a short stint with El Conjunto Bernal before joining Snowball.
