Houston Tex-Mex shows: DLG, Perez, Fito

Big shows coming to Houston this weekend. First off the big Pasadena Cookoff featuring Jay Perez on Friday 9/25. That will be followed by the classy Fito Olivarez and his redhot cumbias on Saturday, 9/26.

The family fest is presented

by MikeyMike and Colt 45 Cookers.

The festival is scheduled at the Pasedena Fairgrounds, Fairmont, Pasedena. $30.

Then also on Friday, the club Hallabaloos features Friday Night with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales. Opening the show is Celso Torres y Tejano Fushion

The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 at Hallabaloos, in far SW Houston. Tickets are $10

Mexican music fans of every stripe are in mourning at the passing of two of the country's music giants. Internationally recognized singer/songwriter Roberto Cantoral and norteno pioneer Miguel Luna passed on two days ago.

Cantoral was famous for the classic boleros “El Reloj,” “la Barca, and “El Triste,” while Luna was one half of the seminal norteno duo El Palomo y el Gorrion which scored with standard hits such as "Ingratos ojos míos," "En toda la chapa" and "Elisa."
