Texas Twister: Tracy Lawrence, Little Joe

Country and Tejano? Why not? Angleton promoter Jim Luna has put together the Texas Twisters concerts series which will feature Tracy Lawrence and Little Joe.

The show is at Freeport Municipal Park Landing where Honda

of Lake Jackson presents the Texas Twister Concert Series. Also performing are Grupo Vida and Stampede.

The show is scheduled 4-10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. For details: (979) 665-1923

Luna, of Quartermoon Productions, said the event was family friendly.

"First of all it a tardiada Sunday afternoon matinee so to speak. It starts at 4 p.m. and over at 10 p.m., not too late for the whole family.

"We're like adding two different cultures with mega star Tracy Lawrence and Tejano icon Little Joe. This is is like huge class room for our youngsters teaching them our diverse culture and also the versitility as well, in an outdoor setting."

Like other long running promoters, Luna is customer focused.

"My customers are the most important aspect in this business. To me over the 32 years I have been promoting events, in my humble opinion I can bring the best artist to my venues, but without your customers you are nothing. I strive to satisfy them. I have tradition I took up several years ago at the end or towards the end of my shows, I try to personally thank them all."

Luna has been at the game a long while.

"I started at the age of 21 so about 33 years I have been going at it. I remember the 1st show I made was with Little Joe y La Familia. My claim to fame was that back then there was a roaming reporter traveling with Little Joe from Rolling Stone magazine and quoted me as one of the youngest promoters in Texas.

"The biggest show for me was by far a show in San Bernadino, CA at the Orange County show grounds in 1986. There were 8,000 plus people with none other han LittleJoe,Tierra. My MC that night was Paul Rodriguez.

"My most memorable show was 3 years ago, a concert in Cuero TX. about 30 minutes from Victoria, Texas, an outdoor event on Cinco de Mayo, Friday night featuring conjunto festivalwith Los Hometown Boys, Los Chamacos, Los Garcia Brothers, and the Texmaniacswith well over 3,000 people in a town that its total population which I think 5500 hunderd or so."

Lawrence had been scheduled to play in San Antonio in August but was forced to cancel because of an illness. Lawrence had been scheduled to receive a proclamation from SA Mayor Julián Castro making him an honorary citizen of San Antonio.

At the time, Lawrence sent out a news release:

"The outpouring of well wishes from friends, family and fans has been overwhelming. I am taking the time to get healthy, and with your prayers and support, I’m confident that I’ll be back on the road to recovery in the coming days. Thanks to all of you!”

Lawrence released his first inspirational CD this year, “The Rock,” which debuted in the Top 5 Christian charts and in the Top 20 country charts.
