Military Veteran Day Parade Fundraiser: music, dance, tribute

Lots of music, dance and prizes highlighted the annual U.S. Military Veteran Day Parade held last Friday at Pueblo Hall. But the focus, as always, was in paying tribute to the military veterans.

Parade Association President Delia A. Guajardo told the

assembled crowd, including several veterans, that "the veterans who have served the country, can never be thanked enough." The dance Friday was a fundraiser for the association which annually organizes, prepares and executes the massive street parade, one of the largest in the country.

The 10th Annual Veterans Day Parade is scheduled at noon Saturday, Nov. 7. The Alamo Ceremony is set at 11 a.m. and Parade Steps Off at 12 p.m.

The dance Friday featured the Tribute Band and also the Patsy Torres band.

Additional details on how the 10th annual parade is unique this year include the participation of J. R. Martinez, as Honorary Grand Marshal. Martinez, who appears on the ABC-TV Networks' "All My Children" is an Iraq war veteran. He was in a bomb explosion in Iraq. Guajardo said this year's parade will also have a U.S. Air Force jet squadron fly-over. In addition, a representative from the U.S. Pentagon- Lt. General Stephen M. Speakes, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8 United States Army is also participating in the parade.
