Jorge Moreno has the best of two worlds

Jorge Moreno is one of those versatile artist who is just as comfortable singing in Spanish as he is in English. He also switches easily from country and classics to boleros, cumbias and polkas. Our correspondent Ramon Hernandez has a chance to visit with Moreno in this report.

His last name is Moreno, but he is actually guero. In fact being

 light skinned and ‘Moreno’ has been a metaphor that defines his contrasting diversity as an artist.

And please don’t confuse this Jorge Moreno with the 17-year-old actor or the Miami-based Grammy Award winning Cuban American singer, which share the same name.

This Jorge Moreno was born in Tulare, California and raised in Porterville, but above all, he wants to be Tejano.

“As a child, when my brothers – Casimiro, José, Héctor and Roberto – would travel to Mexico during the off grape season in winter, my earliest musical influence was listening to Ramón Ayala and Los Humildes,” Moreno said during

Classy, saxy and innovative are some adjectives that have used to describe Joe Posada, a mainstay in  this city’s music scene for 44 years.

This year, the ageless, versatile musician is nominated “Best Entertainer,” “Best Vocalist” and also in the “Best Vocal Duo” category for “Si Cocinas Como Caminas” in duet with Leslie Lugo.
