Home Music Tejano / RegMex Hector Tricoche: headlines salsa family fest
E-mail Print PDF

Salsa star Hector Tricoche returns to San Antonio Sunday for the big salsa family festival at the Old San Juan nightclub.

The family event will also include performances by Mi Rumba Orchestra from Houston and DJ Papote.

Activities include food booths and arts & crafts. The festival will start at 1 p.m. outdoors and will move indoor at about 8 p.m. The Old San Juan is located at Austin Highway at 4429 Walzem.

Tricoche is an artist who emerged during the "romantic" phase of salsa of the mid'80s.

Tricoche is known for

collaborating on his CDs with Ramon Sanchez, Louis Garcia, Ricky Rodriguez and others who leave solid imprints of their individual styles.

On a recent CD "Nuevo Amanacer," solid cuts include "Como Decirle al Corazon," and "Ahora Como Te Olvido," which radiates with Sanchez' time changes and orchestral arrangements. Also compelling are the horns which play off each other in a natural ebb-and-flow pace while the vocal harmonies of Tricoche, Darvel Garcia and Hector Perez also complement each other nicely with just enough tension.

"Es el Amor Quien Llega," rings with flowing trombones riding over a gauntlet of bright trumpet spikes.

A native of Juan Diaz, Puerto Rico, Tricoche began his career singing lead vocals for La Terrifica and after a couple of years joined the Orquesta de Tommy Olivencia, touring the world. After a seven-year tenure he went solo.
