The miracle saga of Emilio Navaira continues with the news that he faithfully completed the terms of his plea deal with Harris County prosecutors.

Navaira, who crashed his tour bus in March 2008 in Houston, had negotiated a plea deal for driving under the influence which included him spending three days in the Harris County Jail. But his serious head injuries sustained in the crash prevented him

from serving those days until recently. He was released Friday.

The plea deal also included serving 30 days of house arrest, two years probation, 200 hours of community service and a $4,000 fine.

Few people realize just how many miracles Navaira has gone through.

First the odds that the accident happened on a freeway in Houston, home to some of the best hospitals in the world. The odds that by chance an ambulance was traveling in the opposite direction on the freeway, saw the crash and was on the crash scene before the band members even stepped out of the bus.

Navaira was airlifted to a hospital only miinutes after the accident. Navaira slipped into a weeks-long coma but miraclously came out of that.

When - or if - he will ever make a complete mental recovery is a question that has yet to be answered. And there's also the the question of whether all his fans will ever completely come back?

Officials reported Navaira had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19 after the crash, nearly twice the legal limit for driving. He crashed his tour bus on the West Loop at the Southwest Freeway on March 23, 2008. Navaira suffered significant brain trauma when he was thrown through the windshield after crashing the bus into freeway barrels.

For Navaira, it was his DWI charge.

Navaira’s defense attorney Paul Doyle said "Emilio improves every day. His mind is almost 100 percent. Just like anybody with head injuries, when you come back, you may not be able to verbalize your thoughts perfectly. But, in terms of his singing, it gets better and better every day,"

Navaira’s band members also suffered a variety of injuries but none that required hospitalization.

Police said Navaira wasn't licensed to drive the 26,000-pound bus.

Navaira has released more than a dozen albums with his band. He won a Grammy for best Tejano album in 2003 with "Acuerdate."

Born Feb. 23, 1939, Elsa, TX

Esteban Jordan always played his music the way he's lived his life -- free-spirited and adventureous, injecting the various elements of rock, jazz and blues into his basic conjunto, polka, and ranchera repertoire. Jordan mesmerizes audiences. He plays his accordion with such energy and intensity that he's often been called the Jimmy Hendrix of the accordion.
