Mexican pop/rock singer Gloria Trevi has been announced as performing at the 2012 Premio Lo Nuestro, scheduled Thursday, Feb. 16 in Miami.

Trevi will sing her new single  “Gloria,” from her new album “Gloria en vivo,” according to her record label.
 
Written by Umberto Tozzi, Gloria" was originaly recorded in 1982 by Laura Branigan and became a big hit.

Cornelio Reyna JrBy RAMIRO BURR
His name was always among the towering legends in the evolution of Tex-Mex and norteno music.

Yet while the name Cornelio Reyna Jr. was often associated with the pioneers of border music, he never quite reached the stratosphere the way his late famous father did.

According to a family spokesman Rafael Montiel, Reyna Jr. died of apparent respiratory failure in a downtown Mexico City hospital on Aug. 6.  He was 50.

Peter Santillano might be a late bloomer, but the wait may well be worth it.
The Hondo, Texas-native has been singing since 1954. However, it was not until fifty years later that he recorded his first compact disc, “Caminos Chuecos.”

Classic Tejano lost another hero recently when pioneer Ramiro "Snowball" de la Cruz passed away of a heart attack.

De La Cruz, 68, died May 20 in McAllen.

Many fans may recall De La Cruz as heading the band Snowball and Co which backed up another pioneer – Laura Canales in her early career. Canales had originally begun her career with Los Unicos and followed with a short stint with El Conjunto Bernal before joining Snowball.
