Ok, - the year was 1967 - it was August, and a song popped on the radio that became a No. 1 for a group known as the Boxtops.

That song was called "The Letter," about a guy wanting to get home fast to his girlfriend.

Well, the man who wrote that song, Wayne Carson, died Monday at the age of 72 in Nashville, Tenn. in hospice care after a lengthy illness, according to family friends.

Carson was also famous for a couple of other songs, including Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind," which he co-wrote with Johnny Christopher and Mark James, and which won two Grammy Awards in 1982.

In 1966 Carson scored his first big hit, titled "Somebody Like Me," recorded by Eddy Arnold, and his songs have been covered by many artists across genres, from Elvis Presley to Al Green.

Carson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1997.

And in upcoming shows

Colbie Caillat and Christina Perri, Aug 15 at Majestic Theatre, Jackson Browne, Oct 20, Styx, Oct 14, Majestic Theatre, Luke Bryan, Oct. 22, Alamodome, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt, Oct 25, Majestic Theatre San Antonio, and Janet Jackson, Jan 21, ATT Center,

And that is it for this week - we'll catch everybody next week on the Buzz with Burr
