Guitarist-singer Rachel Laven has been announced as the TMC Jack Skiles Scholarship winner.
The scholarship, presented by the music organization Texas Music Coalition, also announced Ruben Jimenez Jr as second place winner and Raul (Mark) Gonzaba as the third place winer.
Laven receives $500 while Jimenez receives $250. Gonzaba received a one year TMC membership.

Several border communities have been hit hard by the recent rains and subsequent floods caused by Hurricane Alex. Monterrey, Reynosa, and Piedras Negras in northern Mexico are among the hardest hit cities along the Rio Grande Valley.

Most of these cities experienced high floodwaters that knocked out streets, bridges, houses and more. 

Now comes the SA Border Relief Concert. It is a big show set for tonight presented by Dr. Alma Aguado, Grace Hernandez and Michael Salgado.

The popular Ricky Naranjo Y Los Gamblers won the 2010 South Texas Conjunto of the Year honors last week in the Rio Grande Valley.

The annual STCA awards recognize and honor the most popular conjunto groups in South Texas.

The 12th Annual STCA Conjunto of the Year Awards were held July 18 at the JAGZ Ballroom, 5419 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr, Texas.
