Prolific songwriter Rick Garcia presents talk on Hollywood success

Rick Garcia, a native of San Diego,Texas, has enjoyed notable success as a songwriter on several major movies, including "Glory Road" and "The Interpeter."

Garcia will be the main speaker in the ASCAP event "ASCAP Latino

Chat 101" scheduled 4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Longworth Bldg Auditorium 101, San Antonio College, 1330 San Pedro.

The event is admission-free but donations accepted for the students in the form of food and refreshments for the evening. Sonny Melendrez will serve as MC.

From ASCAP's bio on Garcia:

"Rick Garcia grew up in San Diego Texas. A small rural South Texas town situated between Corpus Christi and Laredo.

"He began playing the drums at the age of four and wrote his first song at the age of nine. He has gone onto co-write and perform over 45 songs for such major films as SEVEN POUNDS, HANCOCK, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, DOMINO, GLORY ROAD, THE INTERPRETER, SAVING SILVERMAN, NEXT and MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL.

"He has had the privledge of working with some of the most respected names in the business. He’s currently songwriting for numerous upcoming projects and remains one of the most in demand singer/songwriters working in the film industry today."
