Pop/rock singer/songwriter Shakira is preparing to launch a new world tour in October. The tour will include several United States  dates including stops in San Antonio, El Paso, Dallas, Chicago, Oakland and San Diego.

Shakira, from Colombia, is one of the most popular singer/songwriters today with record-setting CD sales and tour revenues. She is one of the most exciting and successful artists in recent history with more than 214 award nominations and more than 50 million albums sold worldwide.

According to MSNBC.com, Shakira has toured the United States only twice in her career, once in

2002 for the "Tour of the Mongoose" and the second time in 2006 for her "Oral Fixation" tour, which grossed more than $100 million.

The 2010 Shakira tour, in support of her 2009 album "She Wolf," is set to begin on September 21 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and end on October 23 at the Staples Center in Los

Angeles.

The first three dates of her North America tour include New York's Madison Square Garden Sept. 21, Houston's Toyota Center Oct. 8 and L.A.'s Staples Center Oct. 23.

Shakira plans to perform songs from her collection of smash hits and newest album, “She Wolf,” on Epic Records, which was released  in the U.S. last November. The critically acclaimed album continues to grow in popularity with the recent release of the album's third single, "Gypsy." This hit was preceded by top singles "She Wolf" and "Give It Up To Me" featuring Lil' Wayne. Shakira made Billboard chart history this year with her 17th Top Five hit on the Latin Pop chart with "Gitana." This gave her the most Top Five titles by a female artist in the chart's 16-year history.

In addition to her summer tour, Shakira will take the stage at some of this year's hottest summer festivals including London's legendary Glastonbury Festival and Rock In Rio in Lisbon and Madrid. The popular musician's song "Waka Waka" (This Time For Africa) also has been selected as the official anthem of the 2010 World Cup.

Shakira is an advocate for universal education and is the founder and President of the Barefoot Foundation (Pies Descalzos), a founding member of the ALAS Foundation and an ambassador for 1GOAL and UNICEF. For complete tour and ticket information, visit www.Shakira.com or www.LiveNation.com.

Promoter Live Nation is hyping that the tour, which launches this summer, will "push the limits of the live concert experience."Shakira, the Colombian super diva, will play a show Saturday, Oct. 9, at the State Farm Arena.

Since her arrival in the mid-90s Shakira has become an international superstar, creating massive pop and dance hits in both English and Spanish. She has collaborated with established artists including Gloria Estefan, Wyclef Jean and Alejandro Sanz. Her latest album She Wolf debuted last year, powered by the impossibly catchy single of the same name.
