Thalia, Luis Fonsi, Alejandro Fernández, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Anahí, Aventura, and Chayanne are among the top nominees for the 7th Annual “Premios Juventud” (Youth Awards).

The awards recognize the biggest names in Latin show business and sports as chosen by young Hispanics who vote online through (keyword: Premios Juventud). The popular awards show will air on the Univision Network, from the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami at 7 p.m. (CST) Thursday, July 15.

According to Univision, there are 28 categories specifically

created to celebrate the preferences of today’s Hispanic youth. The “Premios Juventud” covers music, film, sports and pop culture. This year the nominations are led by Aventura, Anahí, and Chayanne with 9 nominations each, competing in such categories as “Catchiest Tune,” “CD to Die For,” and “My Favorite Video,” among others; followed by Thalía with five (“Best Ballad,” “Favorite Pop Star,” and “Girl of My Dreams,” among others), Luis Fonsi with four (“Red Hot Artist,” and “Favorite Concert,” among others) and Tito “El Bambino” (“My Ringtone”), Shakira (“Best Moves”) and Wisin y Yandel (“Favorite Urban Artist) with three each.

Other multiple-award nominees include Alejandro Fernández, Espinoza Paz, Ricky Martin and William Levy with two nominations each.

Multiple award-winning actor Benicio del Toro is nominated for his work in the film “The Wolfman,” competing with such stars as Antonio Banderas (“Thick as Thieves”), Gael García Bernal (“Rudo y Cursi”), Kuno Becker (“From Mexico With Love”), and former RBD member Alfonso Herrera (“Venezzia”) in the “Can He Act or What?” category. A roster of A-list actresses are nominated for the “She Steals the Show” category, including Ana de la Reguera (“Cop Out”), Kate del Castillo (“Julia”), Penélope Cruz (“Nine”), Salma Hayek (“Cirque Du Freak”) and Zoe Saldaña (“Star Trek” and “Avatar”). The “Favorite Flicks” category includes nominations for “Avatar,” “Cop Out,” “Our Family Wedding,” and “Rudo y Cursi.”

Some of the most idolized athletes across the Americas face-off for this year’s sports awards, including baseball player Alex Rodríguez and soccer super stars Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa, and Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, who were nominated in the “Most Electrifying Male Athlete” category. Competing as “Most Electrifying Female Athlete” are boxer Kina Malpartida, golfer Lorena Ochoa, Brazilian soccer star Marta, and race car driver Milka Duno.

Fans can go to online or on their mobile phones to vote for their favorite nominees. Voting is open today through May 27th at 11:59pm PT. Fans can also access video and photos of each nominee, and chat about the latest celebrity gossip on dedicated forums. Online and mobile website coverage of “Premios Juventud” extends beyond the nominees to highlights from every past show, including the popular best and worst dressed galleries and total access behind-the-scenes photos.

In recognition of the spirit and voice of Hispanic youth, Univision, “Premios Juventud” and JCPenney will honor their excellence by awarding several scholarships for academic, sport and musical achievement. The winners will be announced live on the show.
