Roland Martinez is one of those names that is associated with the top line in the history of San Antonio Tex-Mex music.

A popular, all-pro drummer, Martinez has played with many of the big stars from the late Laura Canales, to Jimmy Edward, Joe Bravo, Sunny Ozuna and many, many more.

It has been a full life many people would envy – traveling the world, making friends with top celebrities, tons of accolades and recognition.

But not all has been sugar and roses along the way.

Now comes the news that Martinez is struggling with kidney/renal disease problems and he is in need of

a transplant. While his family has rallied around him, there is still a great need for financial assisitance for medical needs.

So his loving, tireless, devoted wife, Hortense, is organizing a BBQ Plate ($6) fundraiser on June 27 noon-4 p.m. at the Ringside Sports Bar. There will also be lots of desserts on sale as well. Volunteers are needed.

Also coming up is the Sunday July 4th Legends in Review concert/fundraiser at the historic Cadillac Bar, 212 S. Flores.

Performing are Rudy Palacios and Alamo City Band, Rudy Tee, Ernie Garibay, Jimmy Edward, Tobias Band, Groove Doctors, Lisa Sharp, Rico (salute to Dimas Garza), Monica of Soundrave, and many more. Tickets at door are $5. Dance starts at 5:30 p.m.

For details contact Linda Gonzales (210 381-4104, Rudy Palacios (210) 680-3651, or Tencha (210) 689-7690 for plate tickets or dance information.
