Pioneers, youngbloods showcased at Tejano Conjunto Fest 2008

The 2008 Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio is only days away.
 
This year features themes including "Women in Conjunto Music" and "Homenaje a Lydia Mendoza" that will showcase performances by
El Conjunto Baraja de Oro, Dueto Carta Blanca de George y Mague, Linda Escobar, Joel Guzman & Sara Fox, Santiago Jimenez, Jr., Eva Ybarra, and others.
There will also be a "Tribute to Tony De la Rosa: His Style and Legacy" featuring Boni Mauricio y los Maximos, Los D Boyz, Alfredo De la Rosa, Cuatro Rosas and Bernardo y sus Compadres.
 
 
In addition, the festival will offer food and refreshment booths, an accordion raffle, student recital and more. The TCF takes place at the Guadalupe Theater and Rosedale Park on May 7-10.

Tuesday, May 6/Guadalupe Theater
9-11AM Senior citizens dance with Bene Medina y Conjunto Aguila.
Wednesday, May 7/Guadalupe Theater
12 PM Platica and presentation by Dr. Manuel Pena on "The History and Social, Cultural and Symbolic Significance of Conjunto Music"
1:30 PM Conjunto in Film and Video Retrospective
6:30 PM Dr. Pena reads from his new book, "Where The Ox Does Not Plow/A Mexican American Ballad"
7:15 PM Screenings of the classic documentary films "Songs of the Homeland" and "Chulas Fronteras"
10:00 PM Reception for Dr. Pena and award-winning documentarian and producer/director of "Songs of the Homeland" Hector Galan.
