Reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee enters the next phase of his brilliant career this week when he debuts his new movie "Talento del Barrio."
In this CBS News report by Judy Rosen, Daddy Yankee said he is excited about his new movie, which he produced. The storyline of a struggling young artist closely parallels the life of Daddy Yankee (real name Ramon Ayala.)
"I'm very excited about this project because a lot of people have done this before in the Anglo market, but I'm opening doors in the Latino market," the singer/rapper told CBSNews.com.
Daddy Yankee appears in the movie as Edgar Dinero, a young man who tries to hide his barrio roots from the woman he loves. The movie follows his struggles to break his ties to a violent underworld and start a new life.
In the CBS News interview, Daddy Yankee explained that he, like his character, faced many tough situations but added that the film is not biographical:
"I saw all the things [the character] goes through in the movie, basically, in my life. Those are the things we go through in the barrio in Puerto Rico."
