The band is riding the wave of popularity, having lodged another No. 1 on the charts with their latest CD "Raices" (Roots). The group also won a Grammy last February for best norteno album for the CD "Detalles y Emociones."
Their new tour will take them to rodeos, arenas, and major fairground concerts.
In a recent interview, the group talked about their recent accomplishments and upcoming projects.
A bio-pic of the band is in the works but still in the preliminary stages. The band has been in discussions with director Gregory Nava and producer Montezuma Esparza (Selena), said Tigres singer Jorge Hernández.
Los Tigres are especially proud that the years-long work of digitizing 32,000 corrido recordings dating from 1904 to 1954, from music historian Chris Strachwitz's personal collection, was completed in early March. In 2001, the Los Tigres Del Norte Foundation provided a $500,000 grant to the UCLA's Chicano Research Center to make that project possible.
"It is a very important project," says Hernández. "And we're very proud to have been a part of that."
The band is also looking to celebrate their 40th recording anniversary in March 2009.
Los Tigres had a few US dates in July and early August and for the next several weeks they are in Spain on tour.
