According to concert series spokesman Michael Kobus, the 2008 Party on the Plaza season will kick off with a hurricane benefit concert featuring top stars Javier Galvan y Grupo Fama, Eddie Gonzalez y Grupo Natural and Latin GRAMMY nominee, Stefani Montiel, on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

According to a prepared news release, Party on the Plaza, one of the largest outdoor concert series of its kind, was forced to cut short its season as Hurricane Ike made its way towards the Gulf Coast.  Nearly three weeks since Hurricane Ike made landfall, Party on the Plaza returns to Jones Plaza--in the heart of Houston's famous downtown theater district--for another season of live Latin music and with hopes of helping people in the area trying to move forward with their lives.

With its new season about to kick-off, long-time music promoter Michael Kobus, will turn Party on the Plaza into a Hurricane Ike Relief Fund Drive/Concert. A portion of the proceeds collected from the sale price of each Party on the Plaza ticket will go to the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund, a fund that enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disasters.POP Crowd 2008.jpg

"It is my goal to raise $10,000 through four concert performance set for October 7th, 14th, 21st & 22nd," Kobus stated in a phone interview. "There are so many families in Houston who still need help. When I decided to choose an organization to donate these proceeds to, I thought of the American Red Cross. They are the first to respond in times of disasters and I knew that every dollar we raised would help so many families."

"The Red Cross truly appreciates the support from Party on the Plaza fans.  With so many people affected by not only this hurricane but by other disasters everyday, it's great to have the community come out to continue to support the Red Cross and come to the aid of those in need," commented Jennifer Lubrani, spokesperson for the American Red Cross.

Party on the Plaza's Tuesday night series will feature Tejano music super stars for only a $5 cover, and $4 of each ticket sold will go to the American Red Cross. To help Party on the Plaza music fans that have been affected directly by Hurricane Ike, there will be free admission from 5 to 7 p.m. only.

Also, new to this season's concert series is Party on the Plaza's sponsorship with SCION. This year, SCION will display several of their models on the concert grounds. Continuing sponsors include Southwest Airlines and LatinoAccess.com.
