Conjunto music is one of the underappreciated treasures in San Antonio.
And one of the best spots to check it out is a quiet, unassuming place that most tourists are unaware of.
However, hardcore conjunto fans are well aware of the place: VFW Post 4700 at 2219 Frio City Road.
It is huge, but it is also intimate.
Every weekend, the best known names in conjunto pioneers and players provide the entertainment including Henry Zimmerle, Fred Saldana y su Camaroneros, Eddie "Lalo" Torres, Nick Villarreal, and Flavio Longoria. There is rarely a cover.
If you like conjunto music, a big dancefloor and a place where you're treated like a regular, the VFW Post 4700 is your place.
Established on Oct. 25, 1945, the post has a storied past, according to Post Commander Robert De La Vega,
