On Intocable's new CD "2C," the group discovered that sometimes looking back is a smart way to move forward says singer Ricky Munoz.
On "2C," Intocable focused on the traditional conjunto and folk roots of Tejano/norteno and downplayed the experimentation they've done with country and pop in previous albums.
"In our last CD ('Crossroads') we experimented a lot with different sounds, like some country flavors and pedal steel," said Munoz. "We got some good feedback from fans who liked the new directions.
"But we also got some fans wondering what was up."
So, to please those type of fans and swing the musical pendulum back.
That is evidenced with the first track "Que Facil Es Amarte," a conjunto instrumental with extended accordion jams. The polka recalls the glory days of pioneers Tony De La Rosa and Valerio Longoria and the golden age of classic conjunto music.
For example, the norteno polka tune "Me Deje Caer," still has that country ballad touch.
"You can feel the core polka beat but it also has a little pedal steel in it, but not as in your face as 'Crossroads.' All of us are very excited, very excited. We had a lot of great comments, for our fans."
In keeping with their reputation as being one of the most creative Tejano/norteno groups, Intocable teamed up with the Duranguense band Los Horoscopos de Durango on the new Unidos Tour.

"Los Horoscops are kinda of like Intocable, they appeal to young crowd, and it is not real traditional Duranguense from what I have heard," said Munoz. "They like to experiment. And nowadays I think you have to join forces with younger bands and go out on tour and give their people their money's worth. That is what we're trying to do."
The next dates for Intocable/Horoscopos include Aug 22, Cumberland County Fairgrounds, Millville, NJ; Aug. 23, Manhattan Center, NY; Aug 29, Disco Rodeo, Raleigh, NC. Opening the shows is new singer El Gringo.
