'Con Alma Hispana': exciting folkloric music and dance

Thrilling music and captivating dances fueled the Hispanic Heritage Society's "Con Alma Hispana" concert presentation on Sept. 28.

Held at Thiry Auditorium at Our Lady of the Lake University, the concert featured performances by pop singer Franco, Voces De San Antonio, Nataly Peña, and Emanuel Zapata.

Also performing were David Strauss, Kevin Evans, flamenco dance group España Viva, and Hispanic Folklore Dancers Studio Mexicapan.

The Hispanic Heritage Society is one of San Antonio's most important cultural groups.The organization presents several major events a year, including the annual HHS awards which recognize important Latino performers who have contributed a lifetime of influential works.

The fans,a mixed bunch that included college students, graying grandparents, and a few families, enjoyed the presentation.

The opening segment featured Nataly Pena and Rosalinda Rizzo was well as the folkloric dancers.

Organized by music director Cristina Ortega, the song and dance performances were

HHScah52.jpgshowcased in three acts: "Las Tonadillas," a melodic stroll through the South American Andes, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Perú and Venezuela and a third act consisting of the songs, costumes and dances of the Southeast of México.

Sponsors include Frost Bank, City of San Antonio Cultural Affiars, Mimi Stevens Piper Foundation, Drury Inn, and San Antonio Express-News.
