LA rock band Monte Negro swings through on Texas tour

LA-based rock group Monte Negro swings through several Texas cities on their latest tour.

The big tour includes Houston's Continental Club, Oct.28; Dallas' Club Dada, Oct. 30; San Antonio's Joe's Patio Bar, Oct. 31; Austin's Mexican Am Cult Ctr, and Mohawk, Nov. 1. Joe's Patio Bar is located at 2950 Thousand Oaks.

Monte Negro is on tour and was recently added to the Rock y Roll Dia Celebration set Nov. 1 in Austin. Also performing will be with Los Amigos Invisibles and Charanga Cakewalk.

Last August and September, Monte Negro was on a MTV Tr3s-sponsored tour that also included Astra Heights and the May Fire.

Monte Negro is on tour promoting their latest CD, "Cicatrix." Monte Negro music has been described as melodic rock. Monte Negro singer Kinski says when it comes to categorizing the group's music, it is simple.

"Rock is rock, in any language, " he said. "We're not any better or worst than any of those rock bands like Cold Play or Three Doors Down. Our music is unique and transcending."

Kinksi said the band has many influences, but primairly they are rock groups like The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Jane's Addiction, and the Cure as well as Maldita Vecindad, Caifanes, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Mano Negra, Soda Stereo and Spinetta.

The rest of the band is bassist Rodax, guitarist Jason Li Shing and drummer Xavier López.
