The Latino hip-hop group Crooked Stilo is out with a new CD and a new single- "La charanga."
Crooked Stilo, made up of Salvadorian brothers Víctor y Johnny López, has in recent years risen as a top group in Latin hip-hop circles. The East L.A.-based group had a major success with their 2005 CD "Retrasalo."
Not surprisingly, the duo cites a variety of mainstream and Latino artists as inspirations. These include Celia Cruz, Los Angeles Negros, Rigo Tovar, and Los Bukis as well as rappers NWA, Big Daddy Kane, Mellow Man Ace, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Notorious BIG.
Lopez said they called themselves Crooked Stilo as a reference to the "crooked style in which we combine all these elements."
The Lopez brothers wrote the catchy tune "La Charanga." The video of the tune was produced by Rodrigo Barajas and Sean Valadez and recorded in the top studio, Z Lounge in Los Angeles.
The CD can also be pre-ordered at Amazon.com at this Amazon link.
"Cumbia Urbana-The Album" is due out Aug. 12 and, according to Vesper Public Relations, will also be available at Wal-Mart, Target, Ritmo Latino, and mom & pops stores distributed by Select-O-Hits.
