Intocable's Ricky Munoz said he had alternate ideas for the title of the group's latest CD "2C."
One of them was 'Operation Kindergarten.' Not exactly a typical Tejano/norteno title.
"If we had to choose another title for this CD it would be 'Back to the Future."Also Operation Kindergarten.
So why kindergarten?
"Well, we wanted all our songs to be real catchy. You know, 'kindergarten stuff' like 'Mary had a Little Lamb" and "Twinkle twinkle little star." Those songs will never leave your head."
"We didn't plan anything in the studio. We usually don't," Munoz said in a recent interview. "But this time, somehow we got a more rootsy direction."
The first single off the CD, "Tu Adios No Mata" is a typical Intocable norteno ballad with a slow build--up and touches of folk and pop. The lyrics describe an optimistic view despite reaching the end of a relationship.
"Some people think it is an angry song like, 'Your departure won't kill me, I am strong, I am a survivor'," said Munoz. "But that is not it. Nothing like it. It's kinda like, 'you're gone and tu adios no mata," in other words, 'you are gone, and I still have to live with this, it's even worse than dying. That kind of sad song."Munoz said another title could have been 'Back to the Future.' The group also made the last track, also untitled, a huapango.
"We did that, have the old styles as an intro and outro to the roots," Munoz said. "After gaining new fans on our previous CD, we wanted to have something for our older fans.
"On this new CD, we kinda went in with a chip on our shoulder like to say 'We haven't forgotten. We still know our roots.' But we also added some new effects in the studio.
As in their previous CDs, Intocable managed to whip up some memorable tunes with just the right balance between traditional rhythms and new touches. Other standouts includes "Llevame en tu Viaje," on long goodbyes, and the bolero "Como te Atreves," on knowing when it's time to get brutally honest in troubled relationship.
