This weekend will be an unusual weekend, one that will ultimately register deeply in the long, 50-plus year history of Tejano music, an original, American native genre.

Sadly, for San Antonio, the recognized world capital of Tejano, Ground Zero is taking place several hundred miles to the north - in Dallas. (FYI - Your favorite scribe is moderating two panels at the TMNC)

(By the way Julieta Venegas is the one of the best musical gifts to the world, courtesy of Mexico). But I digress. Sittng by the bar when the jukebox cranks out some cool music, it is hard to resist.

Anywayyyyy, Dallas will be stealing San Antonio's thunder this weekend. (more details: Tejano Artists Unite in get-out-the-vote campaign)

But I will digress yet again to allow this quickie report in from one of our correspondents: Tina Escobedo:

"Re: Tejano Convention in Dallas. Javier Galvan y Fama will be pre-releasing their new album enititled "Nostalgia," @ the Tejano Convention in Dallas. All original band members will be performing. Javier is staying busy as he releases his new album ...and he is also working on a childrens album, and a new gospel album. A lot of great things to come from Javier and the guys."

Now, to get down to business on the weekend:

Accordion wizard Albert Zamora will prove that while Esteban 'Steve' Jordan may be one of the world's best players, he is not the only one.

Zamora will drop his magic and his special touch -  with a special guest -  Friday at Graham Central Station.

And.... also Friday - the Hometown Boys drop in Cuauhtemco Hall, 1100 Patton St. San Marcos. Hosted by Sick Entertainment Promotion San Marcos Texas

Also, downtown, Artie V y Grupo Suave is playing Friday  at the Cadillac Bar, 212 S. Flores.

And,,,Los Tovares Solid Tex-Mex band on stage. 8/22, Luckey Road; 8/29. Club Movida.

Also Final Cut Variety band mixes funk, oldies, Tex-Mex and more Friday at George's Place, 5214 Blanco Rd. (210) 340-1275.
