Campanas de América Anniversary, San Antonio's best known mariachi is ready to celebrate their anniversary with a huge gathering on Sept. 19.
The festivities include live concert by Campanas.
The show is scheduled 6-10:30 p.m., Sept. 19. (Dinner at 7 p.m.) at the Pearl Stable, 312 Pearl Parkway. Tickets are $50.(210) 224-0258.
Formed in San Antonio in 1978, Campanas has been one of the most versatile mariachi troupes in Texas.
The troupe was founded by director Juan Ortiz and longtime school instructor Belle Ortiz and has been one of the best-known mariachis in San Antonio.
With their ability to inject rock, pop and country influences in their performances, Campanas became a feature attraction at the Fiesta Texas theme park in the '90s.
Through the years, the groups' abililty to easily mix traditional mariachi with modern rhythms has become their calling card.
The group has produced a half dozen albums including the hit singles "Mujeres Coquetas," "Chango Wango," "La Mariquita," "Dejame Llolar Solo," "Como La Quiero," and "Reynalda."
Campanas has also been featured on a host of albums by such artists as Little Joe, Ruben Ramos, Flaco Jimenez, Willie Nelson and Vikki Carr.
