As part of the MVE season, Mexican singer Azucena is scheduled to present mariachi singing demonstrations at area high schools Sommerset, Highlands and Jefferson. Azucena, of Guadalajara, is participating in the demonstrations on Tuesday - for Diez y Seis de Septiembre.

Anyway, one of those San Antonio traditions this time of year is the annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, one of the largest gatherings of mariachi students, competition and concerts.
As usual, the 7-day extravaganza, scheduled at the Municipal Auditorium on Dec. 6, will be headlined by the world famous 12-piece Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan.
According to MVE's Cynthia Munoz, concert tickets, $20-$100, went on sale last week through Ticketmaster. Tix are also available by calling (210) 244-9600.
